Data sources & attribution
The Guide view layers open data and openly-licensed imagery on top of each itinerary. Here is where it comes from and how it is licensed.
The harbours, anchorages and nearby points of interest shown in the Guide are derived from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap data is OpenStreetMap contributors and is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.
Where this data is shown, you are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt it, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors. If you alter or build upon the data, you may distribute the result only under the same license. The full copyright and license terms are at openstreetmap.org/copyright.
Some place and point-of-interest photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons. Each image carries its own license (typically Creative Commons or public domain) and author credit, shown with the photo in the Guide. License details for an individual image are available from its description page on Wikimedia Commons.
See the Commons reuse guide for how to reuse these images.
Some street-level and place imagery is sourced from Mapillary. Mapillary imagery is provided by its contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0, subject to the Mapillary terms of use. Per-image author credit is shown with the photo.
The map base is OpenFreeMap OpenMapTiles OpenStreetMap contributors. Depth shading is from EMODnet Bathymetry (CC BY 4.0) and Natural Earth (public domain); seamarks from OpenSeaMap.
The satellite view and some ocean contour lines are provided by MapTiler (imagery and data from their providers, credited on the map itself).
Stop positions are looked up with the Nominatim geocoder, which searches OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
Forecasts shown in Voyages come from Open-Meteo (weather data licensed CC BY 4.0), and tide predictions from WorldTides. Both are a planning reference only — always check official marine forecasts and local conditions.
Trails marked AI-assisted were drafted with First Mait, our AI planning assistant, and then reviewed and published by a member. Stops whose position has not been checked are shown in amber. Always verify stops, distances and depths against official charts and pilot books.
Some nearby-place suggestions and the one-line descriptions next to them are AI-generated. They are a starting point, not a substitute for local knowledge — they can be incomplete or wrong, so please verify anything important on the ground or against an official source.
Where a real photograph is not available, a stop may show an AI-generated illustration rather than a photo. These are clearly stylised images, distinct from the real Wikimedia Commons and Mapillary photographs above, which carry per-image author and license credit.
