FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about trails, accuracy, exports and voyages.
- What is a Sailing Trail?
- A Sailing Trail is a reusable sailing route: a sequence of destinations with distances, nights, highlights and hazards. It is not tied to a particular boat, crew or year, so any skipper can use it as a starting point.
- Is sailed.at free?
- Browsing, planning and publishing sailing trails is free. A couple of AI-generated trails per day need no account; a free account raises that limit and lets you save and publish.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to browse, explore, read the safety guides or generate a trail. You need a free account to save a draft, publish a trail, rate trails, add recipes or edit your profile.
- Can I use it for navigation?
- No. sailed.at is a planning tool. Routes, distances, weather and tide information are for reference only. Always use up-to-date official nautical charts, pilot books and your own seamanship, and follow official forecasts.
- How accurate are AI-generated trails?
- First Mait drafts a route quickly, but a draft can contain mistakes: wrong distances, a stop that does not suit your boat, an outdated detail. Stops whose position has not been checked are marked in amber. Review every trail and verify it against official sources before you rely on it.
- Who can see my trails?
- A saved trail is private to you until you publish it. A published trail is public at its own short link and appears in Explore. You can edit it afterwards.
- Can I take a trail into my navigation app?
- Yes. Export a trail as GPX, KML or CSV, or as a full-data file you can re-import to sailed.at, and load it into your chartplotter or navigation app.
- What are Voyages?
- A Voyage turns a Sailing Trail into a specific trip with crew briefings, shared lists, cabins and a shared expense kitty. Voyages are in a private beta; ask for access with the contact address below.
- I found a mistake or a problem. How do I tell you?
- Email us at the contact address below and include the link to the trail or page. We read everything.
